[Pgpool-general] Assistance with pgpool

Good Day:

I am having a problem to make pgpool run in port 5433.
when i try to test it by using psql 
psql -U pgpool -d dbName -p 5433
Password for user pgpool:

I get this in syslog

Nov 15 07:47:13 lenny pgpool: 2010-11-15 07:47:13 ERROR: pid 2826: do_md5_password: failed to read password packet "p"
Nov 15 07:47:13 lenny pgpool: 2010-11-15 07:47:13 ERROR: pid 2826: do_md5failed in slot 0

AND DO NOT ALOW me to connect 
pgpool is runing successfully
